"Unearthing History, Renewing Community: Oaklawn Cemetery Preservation Initiative"
This initiative has the following goals:

Transform the 22-acre grounds into a beautiful, enchanting, and inviting green space for the Mobile community

Assist families in finding their loved ones on a case-by-case basis
-
Clear walkways towards the towering Oak trees, Pine trees, Popular trees, Ash trees and other species to be determined

Restore Oaklawn Cemetery to a level of care and beauty commensurate with its historical and cultural importance
-
Promote intergenerational accountability and sustainability via employment and volunteer opportunities to descendants of the interred
-
Contribute to the aesthetic and environmental well-being of the surrounding community
For years I was not able to visit my parents at Oaklawn Cemetery because they were behind several rows of graves and the overgrowth had taken over. All I could do was drive by and holla “heyyy y’all”. Now I can get out of the car and walk to them for a visit and place flowers between them. The amazing work Ana has done is outstanding.
