Welcome to the Historic Oaklawn Outdoor Museum!
The Historic Oaklawn Memorial Cemetery is filled with thousands of memorable, noteworthy, loving, dedicated and beautiful African-American people. While we do not have the histories on all of their lives, we are fortunate to be able to provide visitors with stories of individuals who have shaped the history of Mobile in historic ways.
Our organization has successfully identified and located the burial plots of 75 individuals who will serve as the founding honorees of the museum. The people are listed based on the section that they are located in at the cemetery. We hope you enjoy finding their plots and reading about their histories via Find A Grave.
This data base is made possible by the extensive research conducted by historian volunteers Dr. Jim Ellis, PhD and Georgeann Ellis in conjuction with the the Local History & Genealogy Mobile Public Library.
